Put your attention on the things you love the most about YOURSELF (obviously also thinking about family, work, groceries, and other realities of life). “Dear Erin, Happy, Happy 44th Birthday!! This is the day you should pull out your baby book & read portions you may not remember about your first few years of life! Here are a few of our notable recollections & photos of your early years: One skill you learned at 8-9 months was snapping your fingers along with your dad in December of 1981! IMPRESSIVE!! (see photo) When you were 5, your granddaddy, Bank, taught you how to play solitaire….. his favorite game!! (see photo of you instructing him) Your first performance on stage was at age 5, conducting an imaginary tea party while sitting in the front row of the stage with Kyle (your 2nd cousin) during the dedication of George Carr Round Elementary School in Manassas, VA which was named for your Great-Great Grandfather. You were very entertaining! (see photo) Apparently, Kyle had difficulty sitting quietly during the various speakers, so he was removed from his front row seat. You, on the other hand, quietly had your tea party! Do you remember one of your first “dates”? Actually, it was a play date when you were about 5 years old. After Joey arrived, you pointed out David’s room where he could play with the boy’s toys while you played in your room. The next year, while living in South Boston, VA, you & your brothers were in the same boy’s room dressed and acting like The Blues Brothers! (see photo) Here's a photo of you celebrating the Passover Seder in Newport News with Grandma Edie & Aunt Rhonda. (see photo) While David & Jonathan played sports, you always said that ballet was your sport (age 8 photo)! Time certainly does fly when you’re having fun…..your smiling face shows that. “Sometimes I wonder if the kids have an understanding of the adventurous nature of their mom. Right now the image that comes to mind for Erin is a mama bear with Cubs in tow, but I always admired her audacious drive growing up. Even from the public spotlight in theatre & dance, but then doing things like hiking the Appalachian Trail. What kid that age decides to head into the wilderness? I won't elaborate on the smell when she returned, but that took chutzpah. Similarly, I recall when Erin took me to a music festival in the boonies of North Carolina where people camped out over a weekend listening to folk musicians. There were some crazy figures around offering all manner of illicit substances which was eye opening for me at that age, but Erin looked out for me. Then later in life she focuses on Judaism, and sees that commitment through. One of the more difficult undertakings, in my opinion, was the decision to move halfway across the country, where we have no familial connections. All of this daring worked out in the end, but at the time it took impressive resolve. In terms the kids may appreciate, Erin is like a Princess Rosella from King's Quest IV.”
